Principal's Corner

Dear McMullen Booth Families,

Only one week until we will all enjoy a much-deserved Spring Break!  As we all look forward to this break, please remind your child to stay focused and do their best as we complete this last week, both academically and behaviorally.  In the excitement of field days and the countdown to a vacation time, it can be more challenging to meet our C2C expectations.  Responsibility, Respect, Self-Motivation and Honesty must be at the center of everything that we do, even in the excitement of special events and break time just around the corner.  Thanks for your help in supporting your student in staying focused on positive efforts and actions at school.

Field Days are coming up next week, and I know the entire school is looking forward to the community and class spirit of these days.  It is a great time to celebrate individual and team work and  accomplishments on the field and in the wonderful sunny outdoors that we enjoy in Florida.  Morning activities focus on individual events, while the afternoon involves class/team events.  Because these events require us to make adjustments to lunch schedules, please be aware that your child’s lunch time may be different on any given day for the whole week.  If your schedule allows, please consider joining us for this fun-filled day of outdoor activity.

Observations of morning drop off and afternoon pick up areas requires me to ask for your assistance. The only supervised areas for drop off and pick up are the car circles at Abby Lake and Union Street where adults and patrols are present to assist in the safe arrival and pick up of your child. If you wish to park in a designated parking area and walk your child in to or from school, you are  welcome. However, drop off or pick up at any place other than our designated car circles is not safe. Please do not drop off along the Abby Lake drive or in the front of our school. The gate at the PE court is for walkers only. Car traffic cannot stop here and let out. Mr. Lawrence is supervising this area for the purpose of  making sure that cars continue along the drive to the designated drop off area. I am asking for your cooperation in this matter, for the benefit and safety of all. Working together, we can make a  difference! Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

I hope you and your family will have a happy and safe Spring Break (March 26 – April 3), filled with family fun and memory-making activities. See you all back at school on Monday, April 4th!

~ Sherry Aemisegger, Principal

Family and Community Relations

Field Days are coming next week!  Thanks to all who signed up to give us a hand. Please plan on coming for the day and time you indicated on the signup sheet and whenever else you’d like to join the fun!  To make this event successful, we need lots of parent participation.  Be sure to come through the office to sign in and get a badge. Don’t forget your water and sunscreen!

Every year the need for Mentors, both male and female, continues to grow. It seems we never have enough trained Mentors to fill all the requests. The primary task of this type of volunteer is to be a listening, caring friend to a child.  My hope is to schedule the required two-hour Mentor training here at McMullen Booth sometime before the end of this school year. Do you have half an hour a week to spare for a struggling student?  I encourage you to consider attending this training that will change the life of a child. Once the date has been set, a flyer will be sent home with students. If you have any questions about what it means to be a Mentor, please give me a call. Please be aware that attending this training will provide you with much valuable information about the nature of a Mentor’s task but does not obligate you to  mentor a student.

Next up … Earth Day, Friday, April 29th Signup sheets are located near the Volunteer computer in the office. Help is needed the day of the event and also, on Thursday, April 28, for set-up at dismissal. If you can help on either of these days, but cannot come in to sign up, give me a call, and I will add your name to our list.

Our Spring Book Fair will be coming in May. Please plan to come over to browse and perhaps, purchase some books for your child. Signups will soon be available in the office. If you can help us with this important event, please come in to sign up or give me a call to let me know your availability. It takes many hands to be able to provide these wonderful opportunities for our students and their families.

As always, we appreciate your generous spirit of caring and sharing!

Media Center News!

All students in grades 3-5 have been introduced to the Battle of the Books program. This program supports the Sunshine State Standards by encouraging the students to read the Sunshine State books. The qualifying tests were given the first week in March. The students with the top scores on the test will be placed on teams. There will be grade-level battles where the winning teams will battle in the school battle. The winning team from the school battle will battle against other schools at the Regional Battle at Largo Library. The winning teams at the Regional Battle will go on to the District Battle.

The grade level battles are as follows:

  - April 26th - 4th grade at 10:00 am
  - April 27th - 5th grade at 9:45 am
  - April 28th - 3rd grade at 9:00 am

The school battle will be held on May 4th at 10:00 am.

Good luck to all the students who participate in this exciting literacy program!!

Parents are invited to attend as well.

Thanks so much!

Calling All Dynamic Dads!

Cafeteria News

Have you wondered how much money is left on your child’s lunch account? Well, now you can find out, and it’s free! Go to www.mealpayplus.com. You will need your student’s ID number (located on their negative balance letters). Enter the number as the ID and PIN number. You can check the status of the account, see what they have purchased and get e-mail alerts when the account falls below a certain amount ($5.25 is a good number, that’s 3 lunches left). All of this is available at no charge to you!

You can also, for a small fee, add money with a check, debit or credit card. When adding to the account, if there is a negative balance in the meals, make sure you add money to zero that out, as well as adding to the “general” account if your child is able to purchase ala carte items.
