Principal's Corner

Dear McMullen Booth Families,

March is upon us!  This is such a busy time of year, with so many things happening across our campus!  We have so much to celebrate!  Here are just a few of the highlights:I am excited to let you know that we have PRIDE winners!  Our fifth grade students have recently taken assessments or presented portfolios in the areas of Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies to be considered for the 2010/2011 MBES PRIDE Awards. To be eligible to take these tests is an honor in itself, as participants must have an A average in the subject and be models of good citizenship. Congratulations to the following students who will represent MBES proudly at an upcoming district ceremony:

  • Writing:  Ethan Cursey
  • Mathematics:  Jethro Mendiola
  • Science:  Genevieve Hall
  • Social Studies:  Jared Klein

Our 4th graders took the FCAT Writing test this week, making us all proud as they showed what they know as writers in the completion of this test. Although this is a 4th grade test, I know that our students have been preparing for this assessment during their writing workshop each day since Kindergarten. Thanks to all who supported our 4th graders in this assessment experience.

We had a wonderful Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast last Friday. Again, we say thank you to all our volunteers who make what we do possible through their love, care and support. This event was put on by our own wonderful Barbara Hajko, along with the support and assistance of our Kindergarten team, and our amazing Kindergarten students who entertained and brought smiles to all in attendance with their adorable musical performance orchestrated by our music teacher Mrs. Jessica Moore. Seeing our students shine like this, reminds us all why we do what we do… and that, of course, is…

Working together to make a difference in the lives of children, who in turn make a difference in our lives!  Isn’t it great to be a member of the McMullen Booth learning family?

Family and Community Relations

Thanks to all who attended our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Friday morning. PCS Dress Codes

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Spring is almost here and with that comes warmer temperatures and pulling out shorts and shirts that your children might not have worn in a while.   As you look to evaluate your child’s wardrobe for proper fit or need for replacement, we would like to remind you and your children about the Pinellas County Schools Dress Code.

  • Students must wear shirts that cover midriff, back, sides and all undergarments including bra straps and have sleeves that cover their shoulders.
  • Students must wear shorts, skirts or dresses that are at least mid thigh in length.
  • Students must wear clothing that is the appropriate size, covering all undergarments, including boxer shorts.
  • Students have daily PE and recess. In order to participate safely, they must wear shoes or sneakers that do not have a high heel and cover their toes and heal completely.

Thank you for your help with this matter. If a student is not following the dress code, an “OOPS” note will be sent home for a first offense which must be signed and returned the next day. Further infractions will result in further contact from the office or an administrator. Please help your student to understand and follow these dress code rules.

Earth Day 2011 - April 29th

We are gearing up for another Earth Day at McMullen Booth. We will need lots of adult volunteers to host this special event. Please let us know if you can help on  Friday, April 29. There is a sign-up sheet posted in the front office. Also, if you have any ideas you’d like us to consider for Earth Day, please let us know. We are collecting pots to plant seeds, so if you have any extra you can spare, please drop them off to Ms. Steakley. It will be a fun filled environmental learning day for our children!

Thanks for your support!  Contact Carrol Steakley if you have any questions or ideas.

Earth Day Extra……..

If you are “spring cleaning” around your house and you have small toys that can be used as prizes for Earth Day stations, please send them to school labeled Earth Day prizes, and we will use them for Earth Day.  Earth Day is April 29th. Mark your calendars to come enjoy and/or volunteer.

Thanks so much!

Cafeteria News

Have you wondered how much money is left on your child’s lunch account? Well, now you can find out, and it’s free! Go to www.mealpayplus.com. You will need your student’s ID number (located on their negative balance letters). Enter the number as the ID and PIN number. You can check the status of the account, see what they have purchased and get e-mail alerts when the account falls below a certain amount ($5.25 is a good number, that’s 3 lunches left). All of this is available at no charge to you!

You can also, for a small fee, add money with a check, debit or credit card. When adding to the account, if there is a negative balance in the meals, make sure you add money to zero that out, as well as adding to the “general” account if your child is able to purchase ala carte items.
