Principal's Corner
Dear McMullen Booth Families,
What a busy time of year! It is a time of joy and celebration for all that has been accomplished, while being a little stressed trying to fit it all in! I am glad that we have so much to celebrate and wouldn't have it any other way! Here is a glimpse at all the wonderful events that have been happening on our campus:
- We had over 220 students participate in our annual MBES Science Fair! Our media center was abuzz with proud students, families and science conversation!
- Our K and 1st grade students had their Evening of the Arts. The art work by both grade levels was amazing!
- Our own Maria Olan won the District level PMAC (Principal’s Multicultural Advisory Committee) Elna Deighton Best Friends Award. This award honors those who support the PMAC through their direct involvement throughout the year!
- Fifth grade attended a grade level celebration at Astro Skate last week, enjoying the fun of friends and classmates. Every student made us proud, as they showed us their character and McMullen Booth spirit in this off-campus event.
- Our PTA received 3 district level awards at a celebration last Friday evening! Thank you PTA for your continuous efforts to support us!
- Jaime Exum, and Oni Dejean represented us proudly at the Carwise Minority Achievement Awards last Saturday morning. We are proud of their achievements!
Teachers and students are celebrating the finish of the year end assessments, and we are so happy to have so many students who have worked hard and shown tremendous growth for their efforts all year long!
These are just a few examples of what makes McMullen Booth the great school that it is! Enjoy these last days of the 2010-2011 school year and reflect on the great progress of our students and community as we have worked together to make a difference in the lives of those around us! We are proud to say, “We are McMullen Booth! Working together, we make a difference!”

Family and Community Relations
As the end of this school year draws near, we must prepare for the start of the next one! To ensure smooth sailing, we need many hands on deck for the first weeks of school. I have placed sign-up sheets at the volunteer computer. Please stop by and see where you would like to help out. If you are unable to come in, please give me a call, and I’ll be happy to assist you. I know we can count on your help!
Thanks to all of you who have been so patient in carrying out our new Volunteer log-in procedures. It seems to be going smoothly, and as the county works out some ”bugs” the data we are able to gather will help reinforce the value of our volunteers to our schools. With the serious budget cuts facing our schools we need you more than ever!
Our 5th grade Celebration will take place on Wednesday, June 8th at 8:45 am in the cafeteria. We are in need of some helpers to set up that morning. If you are NOT a 5th grade parent and would be available to give us a hand that morning, we would greatly appreciate it. Please come in to the office to sign up or give me a call and I will add you to the list.
As always, your commitment to our school and students is greatly appreciated!

Annual School Financial Report
Below is the link to the Annual School Financial Report for the 2009/10 School Year. The DOE requires that we provide this information to inform parents and make it available for review. This report is now available at the link below. There are also hard copies available for your review in the office upon request.

Please note this report is for the 2009/10 School Year. The delay in reporting is caused by the DOE’s reporting and review process which requires the completion and submission of numerous reports by all school districts before the School Financial Report can be generated.
District Science Showcase
Join us in celebrating the elementary science successes at the district’s Science Showcase on Saturday, May 21, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at The Science Center of Pinellas County. There will be free, fun activities for the whole family.
Thank You Crispers!!
We received $129.26 from our last Crispers Family Night.
Box Tops For Education / Campbell’s Label Collection
We will continue to collect Box Tops For Education and Campbell’s Labels in the new school year. Please save them over the summer and turn them in to the office once school begins. A few important reminders:
- Send in the entire Campbell’s label – do not cut them.
- Send the lids only from V8 (46oz) drinks, not the labels.
- The “Earn Bonus Box Tops” have an expiration date. If you are able, please redeem these on your home computer using the instructions on the label. Enter our school name to earn points.
Thanks for your efforts on behalf of our school!
Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones
Pertussis (whooping cough) is highly contagious and one of the most commonly occurring vaccine-preventable diseases in the United States. Many infants who get pertussis are infected by older siblings, parents or other caregivers who might not even know they have the disease. Don’t risk spreading this disease, especially to infants. Talk to your doctor today about whether you should be immunized.
The Pinellas County Health Department provides FREE pertussis vaccinations while supplies last to anyone who has close contact with infants. For more information, please call 824-6900
A Note From Your School Nurse
Pinellas County School policy does not allow us to send medication home with students or store it over the summer. The last day of school for students is Wednesday, June 8th. Please arrange to come to school to pick up any unused medication, including inhalers and Epi-Pens. Any unclaimed medications will be disposed of at the end of the school day Wednesday, June 8th.
Thanks for your help. Have a safe and healthy summer!
~ Denise Tuchman, RN, School Nurse
2011-12 Class Assignments
We are already making plans for next school year. We will post the class assignments outside the front office after 3:30 pm on Thursday, August 18th. We will also host a “Meet Your Teacher” session on Friday, August 19th, any time between 11 am-1 pm. This information will also be
posted on the windows along with a classroom map. You will be well prepared for that important first day of school on Monday, August 22nd!
Spring Cleaning?
If you are cleaning out your closets, our clinic could use all sizes of boys and girls elastic waist shorts and underwear. These gently used clothes
are available to our students who have all kinds of clothing accidents such as exploding milk in the cafeteria and mud slides in PE!
Fifth Grade Award Ceremony
This is a reminder to all our 5th grade parents that the 5th Grade Award Ceremony will be held in the cafeteria at 8:45 AM on Wednesday, June 8th.
Report Cards
Report Cards will be distributed on the last day of school, June 8th. If your child will be absent that day or an early dismissal, you may give permission in writing for another student to pick up their report card or you may provide the teacher a large manila envelope self-addressed with $1.75 postage on it. No exceptions will be made.
Book Bags on the Bus
Our Transportation Department has once again requested that no backpacks be allowed on the buses on the last day of school. They have had a history of vandalism and papers thrown from windows, and they would like to take precautionary measures against such acts. Please reinforce this with your child(ren).

The Spring Book Fair was a HUGE Success!!
Our school media center was transformed into the “Scholastic Book Fair Carnival” during the week of May 2nd. It was full of wonderful new books for our students to purchase. We sold over $10,000.00 worth of items from the fair in one week!!
Many thanks goes to our book fair committee, Marcy Kemerer, Michelle Marcatos, Lisa Rice, Yvonne Jacobi, Nancy Bosser, and Jennifer Bautz for their time spent decorating, organizing, contacting volunteers, and working countless hours at the fair.
Thanks to our McMullen Booth parent volunteers and community for supporting our spring book fair. All profits will go to support our school media center.

Cafeteria News
Have you wondered how much money is left on your child’s lunch
account? Well, now you can find out, and it’s free! Go to
www.mealpayplus.com. You will need your student’s ID number (located
on their negative balance letters). Enter the number as the ID and PIN
number. You can check the status of the account, see what they have
purchased and get e-mail alerts when the account falls below a certain
amount ($5.25 is a good number, that’s 3 lunches left). All of this is
available at no charge to you!
You can also, for a small fee, add money with a check, debit or credit card.
When adding to the account, if there is a negative balance in the meals,
make sure you add money to zero that out, as well as adding to the
“general” account if your child is able to purchase ala carte items.
