Library/Media Center - The mission of the office of library media/technology is to facilitate highest student achievement by implementing library media programs and services that ensure access to and effective use of diverse information and multimedia resources.

Cafeteria - McMullen's Cafe participates in the National School Lunch/School Breakfast Program. Nutritious meals are served every school day. All meals served meet patterns established by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All student breakfasts include 2 Grain/Breads or 2 Meat/Meat alternate or 1 Grain/Bread & 1 Meat/Meat alternate, 1 Fruit and 1 Milk. All student lunches include 1 Meat/Meat alternate, 2 Fruits or 2 Vegetables or 1 Fruit & 1 Vegetable, 1 Grain/Bread & 1 Milk. All adult lunches include an entree, 2 fruits or 2 vegetables or 1 fruit and 1 vegetable, bread w/butter, coffee or tea.

Art - All students receive art instruction once every five days from an art teacher for a 40-minute period. This is a developmental program, K-5. This program involves art history, appreciation, and hands-on projects including the use of computers.

Music - All students receive music instruction once a week for 40 minutes from the music teacher. This program includes singing, dancing, music appreciation and music theory.

Clinic - Our school clinic is for emergencies only. It is imperative that the school office have an emergency contact person and phone number as well as the parent(s) home and business phone numbers in case your child becomes ill or is injured at school. School Board Policy prohibits school personnel from administering anything but the most basic first aid (ice, Band-Aids). In the event a student needs more involved treatment, and the parent or emergency contact person cannot be reached, the emergency medical paramedics will be called.

Nurse - A school nurse visits our school one day per week in addition to being on-call. The nurse assists students with health problems, and is available to coordinate student health care needs with parents and staff.

Physical Education - All students have physical education for thirty minutes every day. This is a developmental program with an emphasis on physical fitness. Children are taught the fundamentals of team sports, sportsmanship, leisure activities, folk and square dancing. We participate in the National Presidential Physical Fitness Program, and assessments occur periodically throughout the year.

Recess - The recess Program works in conjunction with the 30 minute lunch period. After the first 15 minutes, students who have finished their lunch may be excused to walk to the outside PE area where they will be supervised in free choice activity until their teacher picks them up at the appropriate time.

Gifted - The Gifted Education Program is provided to students who have met eligibility requirements for the program. State guidelines require that students demonstrate (a) a need for a special program, (b) a majority of characteristics of gifted students according to a standard scale or checklist, and (c) superior intellectual development measured by an intelligence quotient of two standard deviations or more above the mean on an individually administered standardized test of intelligence. Students in the Gifted Program are served one day a week by a teacher certified in Gifted Education. The curriculum is thematic in nature and covers research skills, problem based learning, thinking skills, and cooperative learning.

Literary Success - This program provides daily instruction for children who qualify for extra help in the area of reading. The program begins in September and runs through April.

Varying Exceptionalities Resource Classes - VE resource classes are scheduled for students who have Individual Education Plans (IEP) and need special small group instruction to help achieve their expected math, reading and/or writing levels.

Speech Pathologist - The speech pathologist works with students who have needs in basic communication skills such as (1) articulation; (2) fluency; (3) voice; (4) language; and (5) hearing. Parents and/or teachers may refer children. Qualified students attend a general education class, but meet with the speech pathologist for a specified period of time each week.

VPK/Blended Pre-K Varying Exceptionalities Programs - Three to five year old children who are developmentally delayed, or have special needs may be served in one of our three Pre-K classrooms. See the office for more details regarding qualifications and space available.

Social Worker - The social worker is at McMullen Booth one day per week. She works with children whose social behavior, personality, achievement, and/or attendance interfere with their ability to make constructive use of their school experience. The social worker occasionally meets with parents at their home or place of work.

Guidance - The guidance councellor works with students, teachers and parents as a support person. Her main goal is to help students achieve their maximum development in achievement, interpersonal relationships, and character development. The counselor meets with all classes to discuss issues such as positive self-esteem, conflict resolution, bullying awareness and prevention, interpersonal skills, decision making and Commitment to Character. Individual and small group counseling services are also offered. Students may refer themselves, or parents or teachers may refer them. Topics for individual and group counseling include peer relations, self-esteem, grief adjustment, divorce and family relationships, friendship, conflict resolution and academic motivation. Our counselor consults with parents, school staff and community agencies to coordinate services for all services.

Psychologist - The school psychologist is at our school one day per week. School personnel or parents may refer students with special educational needs to the psychologist. Written permission for psychological testing is obtained from the parents before services are initiated. Conferences with parents and teachers are scheduled by the psychologist to give test results. The goal of the school psychologist, in cooperation witht he school and home, is to help meet special needs through early identification and intervention. In cases in which therapy may be indicated, the psychologist may refer parents to community resources.
