The success of our advocacy depends on your active involvement.  During the regular legislative session, both National PTA and Florida PTA will post several legislative alerts on their web site.  These alerts will have the following information:

• The PTA Position

• Background Information

• Talking Points

• Action to be taken

• Enough information for you to be able to speak/write to the position

Using the information in the legislative alert, please e-mail, fax, telephone or visit your legislator.  PTA has the potential to be a strong voice that will get the attention of legislators.   

Below you will find information sources that will help keep you informed and help you to be a strong advocate.
 

• www.pta.org - Go to the "PTA and Washington" tab

• www.floridapta.org - Go to the "Legislation" tab.

• www.leg.state.fl.us or www.myflorida.com - You can find the current bills filed in the Senate and House of Representatives

• The Florida Channel - Carries live and recorded coverage of many legislative committee meetings and of Senate and House floor action.  Call your local cable company to see is you have access.

• Print Media - Read, read, read

Also, please note there is a legislative feedback page on the www.floridapta.org web site.  After you have contacted your Legislator/Senator please go online and fill it out and submit.  This is invaluable information to the Florida PTA legislation committee.
